“Cooperation and expansion of relations between independent sates is the only way to change the current highly unjust system in the world,” the Leader said in a meeting with Brazilian President Luis Inacio Lula da Silva who arrived in Tehran last night at the head of 300-strong political and economic delegation.
The Leader of the Islamic Revolution also praised the Brazilian government for its independent stance toward international issues.
“Based on this principle the Islamic republic of Iran welcomes cooperation with Brazil on mutual and international issues,” the Leader insisted.
Ayatollah Khamenei called Brazil “a great and influential country in Latin America and the world” which he said has seen many changes in recent years.
Brazil has been following an independent policy in contrast to the United States, the Leader explained.
Pointing to the Brazilian president’s remarks that it is necessary to change the UN structure, the Leader said, “Closer relationship between independent states is the only way to change the current highly unjust system in the world.”
The Leader said the domination of hegemonistic powers in the world in which the U.S. is on the top should be changed and “this is possible”.
Ayatollah Khamenei added that arrogant powers, especially the United States, are “greatly unhappy” with the cooperation of independent states and their influence on the world.
The Leader said, “The most concrete example is the commotion created over Your Excellency’s trip to Iran by the Americans, because they are against such relations.”
The Leader of the Islamic Revolution also said Iran and Brazil have great potential for cooperation.
For his part, the Brazilian president said the main purpose behind his visit to Tehran was to strengthen economic and political relationship with Iran and promote cooperation on the international stage.
Lula Da Silva also reiterated his international position on the need to change the United Nations structure in the light of new developments in the world.
In recent years new powers have emerged in the world and these countries can form a political and economic bloc, the Brazilian president noted.
Pointing to Iran’s position in the world, Lula Da Silva said Brazil is of the opinion that the Iranian nation and government “have right to defend their independence and take steps toward progress and development.”
